In 1999 local farmer Tom Renwick Spent £5m on the development of Cardrona, a small village to be created near the town of Peebles. There was controversy towards the project because people felt that it would destroy the view of the River Tweed. Roughly 220 houses were built around the area, and the last street was named “Renwick Lane”

Cardrona is etymologically a Cumbric place-name. The first element is cognate with Welsh caer ‘fortification’ The second element is less clear but recent work suggests it may be a word for ‘promontory’

Horsburgh Castle, also known as Horsbrugh Castle, is a ruined tower house castle by the River Tweed, on the A72 road from Peebles to Galashiels, near Glentress in the Scottish Borders area of Scotland. The ruins date from the 16th century and were built by the Horsburgs.

Nether Horsburgh Castle is a ruined tower house near Cardrona, in the Scottish Borders. It is situated at the back of a farmstead, 3.5 miles (5.6 km) southwest of the market town of Peebles. Access may be gained by permission from the adjoining farmstead.
