The roots of the village are in the 19th-century slate industry and was apparently built to house workers for the nearby Dinorwig slate quarry. Dinorwig Dinorwig is a small village located high above Llyn Padarn, near Llanberis, in Wales. Dinorwic is a Welsh village located in the Welsh mountains.

Llanberis Llanberis is a village, community and electoral ward in Gwynedd, northwest Wales. It is a centre for outdoor activities in Snowdonia, including walking, mountaineering, climbing, mountain biking and pony trekking. It takes its name from Saint Peris, an early Welsh saint.

National Slate Museum The National Slate Museum is located at Gilfach Ddu, the 19th-century workshops of the now disused Dinorwic quarry. The museum is an anchor point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage (ERIH) and part of Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales.

Dinorwig Power Station The Dinorwig Power Station is a pumped-storage hydroelectric scheme. It can supply a maximum power of 1,728-megawatt (2,317,000 hp) and has a storage capacity of around 9.1 GWh (33 TJ)

Llanrug Llanrug (or Llanfihangel-yn-y-grug) is a large village and community in Gwynedd, north-west Wales. It lies about 4 miles (6.4 km) to the east of Caernarfon, 7 miles (11 km) south of Bangor and 3 miles (4.8 km) northwest of Llanberis. It has a Welsh-speaking community of approximately 88%, the highest in Wales, and a population of 2,911.

Gilfach Ddu Gilfach Ddu (also known as Dinorwic Slate Quarry Quarry Workshops) are a series of well preserved Grade I listed industrial buildings. The complex includes saw sheds, patternmaking shops, foundry with copula, blacksmiths shops, fitting shops, stores, engine sheds, a canteen, the chief engineers house, a hand operated crane and two waterwheels which provided the site with its power.
