Brynberian history


In medieval times Brynberian was in the ancient cantref of Cemais, under Norman control from about 1100 until 1326. During the 19th century there was a woollen factory and mill and most of the present buildings in the village are 19th Century. The mill is a Grade II-listed building, as is one of its outbuildings.

Brynberian photo That Roundhouse
That Roundhouse is a roundhouse sited in woods within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park near Newport in Wales. It was constructed without planning permission during the winter of 1997/1998 by Tony Wrench and Jane Faith and helpers as part of the then secret Brithdir Mawr intentional community. The structure was discovered in 1998, challenged by the authorities, and threatened with demolition.

The Preseli Hills are mostly within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. The range stretches from Newport in the west to Crymych in the east. The highest point at 1,759 feet (536 m) above sea level is Foel Cwmcerwyn.

Penbanc is a 19th-century thatched Pembrokeshire longhouse (tŷ hir in Welsh) about 1.5 kilometres (0.9 miles) northwest of the hamlet of Brynberian. It is designated by Cadw as a Grade II listed building.

Cemais (sometimes spelled Kemes) was an ancient cantref of the Kingdom of Dyfed, from the 11th century a Norman Marcher Lordship. It occupied the coastal area between the Teifi estuary and Fishguard, and the northern and southern slopes of the Preseli Hills, covering an area of approximately 140 square miles (360 km)
