Boscombe, Wiltshire history
Domesday Book in 1086 recorded two estates with altogether 19 households: one (later called East Boscombe) held by the nobleman William of Eu and the other by Amesbury Abbey. In 1872 the Basingstoke and Salisbury railway line ran through Boscombe, and there was a post office, almshouses and a Norman church. By 1894 the population had fallen to 113 and the church was in poor condition.
