The Battle of Bulcamp occurred in 653 or 654 AD between the forces of Anna of East Anglia and Penda of Mercia. Blythburgh Priory was founded by Augustine monks from St Osyth’s Priory in Essex in the 12th century. It was suppressed in 1537 and ruins remain at the site of the priory.

Blythburgh geography / climate

Southwold is 30 miles (48 km) north of Ipswich and 24 miles (39 km) south of Great Yarmouth. The village is noteworthy for the large area of flooded marshes around the River Blyth. The majority of the land to the south of the village is owned by the Blois family, formerly from Cockfield Hall.

Thorington Thorington is a village and a civil parish in the hundred of Blything, in the East Suffolk district of the English county of Suffolk. It is located around 3 miles (4.8 km) south-east of the town of Halesworth, immediately south of the village of Wenhaston.

Holy Trinity Church, Blythburgh The Holy Trinity Church is the parish church of Blythburgh in the East Suffolk area. It is part of the Church of England Halesworth deanery in the diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich. It has been listed Grade I on the National Heritage List since December 1966.

Suffolk Coast National Nature Reserve Suffolk Coast National Nature Reserve is a wildlife reserve on the North Sea coast of Suffolk. It is located around the village of Walberswick to the south of the town of Southwold. The reserve is managed by Natural England in conjunction with the RSPB and Suffolk Wildlife Trust.

Latitude Festival The Latitude Festival is an annual music festival that takes place in Henham Park, near Southwold, Suffolk, England. It was first held in July 2006 and has been held every year since. The festival includes a comprehensive bill of musicians, bands and artists across four stages.

Hen Reedbeds Hen Reedbeds is a 55 hectare nature reserve near the North Sea coast of Suffolk. The reserve was created in 1999 from an area of degraded grassland adjacent to the A1095 road. It is an important site for bitterns and marsh harriers within the UK.

Grand Henham Steam Rally The Grand Henham Steam Rally is held every September at Henham Park near Southwold. It features displays of fixed and mobile steam engines and vintage and classic cars and motorcycles. Proceeds are given to local charities.

St Andrew’s Church, Walberswick St Andrew’s Church is a Grade I listed building in Walberswick, Suffolk. It is an active parish church in the Church of England.

Westwood Marshes Mill, Walberswick Westwood Marshes Mill is a Grade II listed tower mill at Walberswick, Suffolk, England which is derelict. The mill is located in the Marshes Marshes area of the Suffolk coast.
