At the Domesday Survey of 1086, Blundeston was named as Dunstuna. It was a small village in the hundred of Lothingland consisting of a handful of families. During the medieval period the land was split between two manors. In the 17th-century the hall was owned by William Heveningham who was one of the judges at the trial of Charles I.
