Ashford Bowdler was historically connected with Bromfield Priory. It formed part of the hundred of Culvestan, which in the 12th century became Munslow. Opened to passengers in the 1850s, it closed in the 1960s.

The village of Ashford Bowdler lies 2.5 miles (4.0 km) South of Ludlow on the western side of the River Teme, facing the larger Ashford Carbonell. The parish lies 1.96 miles (3.15 km) south of the market town, and is bisected West to East by the A49.
