In 1086 it was recorded as Aculestorp in the Domesday Book. Grade II listed building of Agglethorpe Hall was built in the 17th century. In 1870–72 John Marius Wilson’s Imperial Gazetteer described it as a joint township with Coverham, in Coverham parish, Yorkshire.

Holy Trinity Church, Coverham Holy Trinity Church is a redundant Anglican church in the village of Coverham, North Yorkshire. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a Grade II* listed building. The church stands near the ruins of the Premonstratensian Coverham Abbey.
