Woodyates is located in Wimborne-St-Giles, Shaston (East) division of Dorset. The name means “wood gates” and is believed to refer to the position of Woodyates at the entrance to the wooded area of Cranborne Chase. The estate contained an important coaching inn, once called the Woodyates Inn, later the Shaftesbury Arms.

Garston Wood Garston Wood is a 34-hectare (84-acre) woodland nature reserve on the border between Dorset and Wiltshire in England. The reserve is owned by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds to protect species living in the region.

Dorset Cursus The Dorset Cursus is a Neolithic cursus monument that spans across 10 km (6¼ miles) of the chalk downland of Cranborne Chase in east Dorset. Its extreme length makes it a notable example of this class of linear earthwork; it is better interpreted as a pair of same-length cursus constructed end to end.

Bowerchalke Downs Bowerchalke Downs (grid reference SU004218) (also known as Woodminton, Marleycombe Down and Knowle Down) is a 128.6 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Wiltshire, notified in 1971. The downs encompass the entire southern outlook of the village of Bowerchchke in the Salisbury district of Salisbury, England.

Martin Down Enclosure The Martin Down Enclosure is an archaeological site on Martin Down, near the village of Martin, in Hampshire. It is near the boundaries with Dorset and Wiltshire. The enclosure is the original example of a type of prehistoric feature, the “Martin Down style enclosure”
