Westham history
Westham is recorded in the Domesday Book. Its name derives from being a hamlet to the west of Pevensey Castle.
Westham landmarks
Stone Cross windmill was built between 1875 and 1876, the last of the type built in Sussex. Although ceasing commercial operation in 1937, it has since been refurbished and is open to the public. Pevensey Levels, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, lies partially in the parish.

St Mary’s Church, Westham
St Mary’s Church, Westham, East Sussex, is an active Anglican parish church. The earliest fabric in the church dates from the late 11th century. The north aisle and the tower were added to the church in the late 14th century. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building.
Pevensey Castle
Built around 290 AD and known to the Romans as Anderitum, the fort appears to have been the base for a fleet called the Classis Anderidaensis. It was reoccupied between 1940 and 1945 by units from the Home Guard, British and Canadian armies and the United States Army Air Corps.
Anderitum
Anderitum (also Anderida or Anderidos) was a Roman fort in the Roman province of Britannia. The fort was built in the 290s and was abandoned after it was sacked in 471. It was re-inhabited by Saxons and Normans built a castle in the 11th century. During the Second World War pillboxes were built into the Roman walls.
