Twynholm history

Twynholm was a parish from medieval times until 1975, including the neighbouring parish of Kirkchrist from 1654. The village was founded in the 16th century when two mills were set up on the burn which passes through the village centre. The church was constructed in 1818 and was restored and the roof replaced in 1914.

Broughton House Broughton House is an 18th-century town house in Kirkcudbright, Scotland. It was the home of Scots impressionist artist E. A. Hornel between 1901 and 1933. During this time Hornel remodelled the house and created the Japanese-influenced gardens.

Kirkcudbright Castle A motte and bailey castle was built in the 12th century. It was placed in the care of King Edward I of England. King Robert the Bruce captured the castle after 1313 and it appears to have been demolished.

Kirkcudbright war memorial Kirkcudbright war memorial commemorates men killed during the First and Second World Wars. It is sited in front of the 16th-century MacLellan’s Castle and depicts a seated warrior with a sleeping child on his knee.
