Tidmarsh history
The Tidmarsh section of the A340 is thought to follow the Roman road from the Roman Town of Calleva Atrebatum to Dorchester-on-Thames. The southern portion of the section has been artificially straightened in later years. There are multiple World War II military defence installations surrounding the area which make up part of the GHQ Line.
