Thriplow history

The name “Thriplow” means “Hill or tumulus of a man called Tryppa” The village itself probably existed in Romano-British times (around AD 150) The presence of tumuli in the south of the parish suggests an Iron Age settlement; and a barrow to the east of the village contains a Bronze Age burial.

Fowlmere RSPB reserve Fowlmere is a Royal Society for the Protection of Birds nature reserve in Cambridgeshire. It is designated a 39.9 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest. It has three hides, one of which is wheelchair-accessible.

Whittlesford – Thriplow Hummocky Fields Hummocky Fields is a 55.6 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest between Whittlesford and Thriplow in Cambridgeshire. The site has two unusual species, the nationally rare grass-poly and fairy shrimp.

Duxford Aerodrome Duxford Aerodrome (ICAO: EGSU) is located 8 nautical miles (15 km; 9.2 mi) south of Cambridge. The airfield is owned by the Imperial War Museum (IWM) and the American Air Museum. The aerodrome has a Civil Aviation Authority Ordinary Licence that allows flights for the public transport of passengers or for flying instruction.
