WW-II

A B-17F 42-3506 “Sir Baboon McGoon” made a belly landing in a soft and muddy sugar beet field in October 1942. The efforts of the mobile recovery crew to patch this aircraft up and the aircraft’s return to service were documented in a June 1944 article in Popular Science magazine. The aircraft was lost for good when it ditched into the North Sea on 29 March 1944 about 4pm.

Saxtead Green Windmill Saxtead Green Post Windmill is a Grade II* listed post mill in Woodbridge, Suffolk. It is also an Ancient Monument and has been restored.

Saxtead Saxtead is a small village in the East Suffolk district, in the county of Suffolk. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 Census was 335. The name ‘Saxtead’ is first attested in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it appears as Saxsteda.
