Sparkwell photo Newnham Park
Newnham Park is an historic estate in Sparkwell, Devon, UK. It was known as Loughtor until about 1700 when the Strode family moved their residence to the estate. In 2014 part of the estate is operated as a commercial clay-pigeon shooting ground.
Sparkwell photo Fardel Manor
Fardel is a historic manor in the parish of Cornwood in the South Hams district of Devon. It was successively the seat of the Raleigh and Hele families. The surviving Grade I listed medieval manor house is situated about half-way between Cornwood and Ivybridge.
Sparkwell photo Dartmoor Zoological Park
Dartmoor Zoological Park was opened in 1968 by Ellis Daw who ran it until its licence was revoked and it was forced to close in 2006. The zoo was bought in August 2006 by Benjamin Mee and reopened in July 2007. A 2011 film of the same title was loosely based on the book.
Sparkwell photo Plympton House
Plympton House is a Grade I listed country house in the William and Mary tradition. It was commenced by Sir George Treby (1643–1700) and completed c. 1715 – 1720. The architect is unknown although accounts in 1720 refer to William Veale, mason. The house has had three main uses in its 300-year history: firstly a family home; secondly an asylum; and thirdly a convent and residential care home.
