Rhiwbina history
The last native Welsh Prince of Morgannwg (Glamorgan), Iestyn ap Gwrgant, may have been killed in a battle north of Rhiwbina towards the end of the 11th century, near the present-day Butchers Arms public house. Until the 20th century the area remained rural, with few houses. The railway station opened in 1911, and the following year development began of a new garden suburb based on a masterplan by Sir Raymond Unwin.
