Powys is named after the ancient Welsh Kingdom of Powys, which included the northern two-thirds of the area as well as most of Shropshire and adjacent areas now in England. There are 1130 identified burial mounds within the county, of varying styles and ages, dating from 4000BC to 1000BC, most of them belonging to the Bronze Age.

Powys geography / climate

Powys covers the historic counties of Montgomeryshire and Radnorshire, most of Brecknockshire (Breconshire) and part of Historic Denbighshire. It is the largest principal area in Wales by land and area. The largest towns are Newtown, Ystradgynlais, Brecon, Welshpool, Llandrindod Wells and Knighton.

Powys Powys is a principal area and preserved county in Wales . It is named after the Kingdom of Powys which was a Welsh successor state . It emerged during the Middle Ages following the end of Roman rule in Britain .

Cwmhir Abbey Cwmhir Abbey (Welsh: Abaty Cwm Hir), near Llandrindod Wells in Powys, is a Welsh Cistercian monastery. A spurious tale was later recorded that the abbey was founded in 1143 by Meredudd ap Maelgwn at Ty-faenor.

Abbey Cwmhir Hall Abbey-Cwm-Hir Hall is a neo-Elizabethan country house in the Welsh county of Powys. It was built in the 1930s.
