Murston history
The population in 1851 was 191 and then in 1861, it rose to 572. North of the village are salt marshes that suffer from winter fogs and are foul-smelling. King Richard I, while at the Siege of Acon in Palestine, was assisted by ‘Bartholomew de Murston’ of the manor.

The Murston Lakes connected to the Swale and were initially constructed for earlier brickworks, were later used for oyster rearing.
