Lelant history

The name is derived from the Cornish lann and Anta, meaning church-site of Anta. Lelant was a seaport in the Middle Ages, but the trade was lost to St Ives when the estuary silted up. The parish church of St Uny’s Church is situated at the east end of the village on the edge of the towans.

The Bucket of Blood The Bucket of Blood is a public house in Phillack, Hayle, Cornwall, owned by St Austell Brewery. It is thought to be named after an incident where the landlord brought up a bucket of blood from the well. A murdered smuggler had been dropped there and the name has been recognised as one of the quirkiest in the country.
