Killinghall history
In the Domesday Book the village is called Chenihalle, i.e. Kennelhall; probably a place where the hounds (which belonged to the Lord of the Manor) were kept. The name has also been suggested as deriving from Chillingehal, which means the place of Cylla’s people in Old English. During the English Civil War Cromwell’s Norwich Troop of horses were quartered at Killinghall Village.

The River Nidd is crossed by two bridges directly next to each other; the biggest is for most traffic and leads to Ripley. The other is for small traffic and carries a road that comes from the main one (Ripon Road), and joins back onto it after the water.

Grove House, Harrogate
Grove House is a former inn, school and orphanage on Skipton Road, Harrogate in North Yorkshire. Built in 1745–54 as World’s End Inn, it was later greatly expanded as the home of the inventor Samson Fox. It was the first house in Yorkshire to have lighting by water gas.

Stray FM

The station was folded into Greatest Hits Radio Yorkshire, as part of a rebrand, on 1 September 2020.
