Hunmanby history
Hunmanby was the last place in England where King Stephen kept his wolfhounds. The name of the village originated with the Danes, appearing in King William’s Domesday Book (published in 1086) as ‘Hundemanbi’ meaning ‘farmstead of the hounds men’ It was the site of a castle (fortress in some descriptions) which was built by Gilbert de Gant.

Butlin’s Filey
Filey Holiday Camp was a Butlin’s holiday camp near Filey, North Yorkshire. Construction of the camp began in 1939. From 1939 to 1945, the camp was used as a military training base, as RAF Hunmanby Moor. The camp was served by its own railway branch and station from 1947. The railway station still remains today; however, it is on private land.
