Settlements with altogether 12 households were recorded at Helprintone or Helperitone in the Domesday Book of 1086. Little is known of Hilperton’s history until the 19th century; home-based cloth weaving was a major source of employment but declined during that century. The ancient parish of Whaddon was merged with Semington in 1894, then transferred to Hilperon in the late 20th century.

Hilperton is home to a mid-18th century limestone village lock-up known as The Blind House. There are plaques commemorating a thousand years since the Domesday Book, the village’s win as “The Best Kept Village 2012”, and a 1994 plaque commemorating the centenary of parish councils.

Trowbridge Museum Trowbridge Museum is a centre for the history of West of England cloth production. The museum is located in the town of Trowbrid, Wiltshire.

The Polebarn Hotel The Polebarn Hotel is Grade II* listed on the Historic England Register. It was built in 1789 by John Clark, a local textile mill owner and clergyman. It passed through successive generations of the Clark family until it was sold by auction in 1920 to Wiltshire County Council.

Holy Trinity Church, Trowbridge Holy Trinity Church, Trowbridge, Wiltshire, is a Grade II* listed 19th-century Church of England church. It had parish church status until 2011. It is commonly known as ‘The Church on the Roundabout’ as it is encircled by a one-way traffic system.

West Wiltshire West Wiltshire was formed on 1 April 1974, further to the Local Government Act 1972, as a merger of the former urban districts of Bradford-on-Avon, Melksham, Trowbridge, Warminster and Westbury. The district council was based at purpose-built offices in Trowbridge. It was abolished as part of the 2009 structural changes to local government in England.

The Courts Garden The Courts Garden is an English country garden in Holt, near Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire, England. The garden has been in the ownership of the National Trust since 1943 and is Grade II listed.
