RSPB Dearne Valley Old Moor RSPB Dearne Valley Old Moor is an 89-hectare (220-acre) wetlands nature reserve. It lies on the junction of the A633 and A6195 roads and is bordered by the Trans Pennine Trail. Lundhill Colliery explosion The Lundhill Colliery explosion took place on 19 February 1857 in Wombwell, Yorkshire, UK. 189 men and boys aged between 10 and 59 died. It was the first disaster to appear on the front page of the Illustrated London News.

Elsecar Ironworks The Elsecar Ironworks opened in 1795 in the village near Barnsley, South Yorkshire. The company was bankrupted in 1827 and taken over by the Wentworth estate who owned the land it stood on.
