Ewenny Priory

Norman church of St. Michael was built in the 12th century by one of the Norman knights of Glamorgan, William de Londres. His son Maurice founded the adjacent Benedictine priory in 1141. The priory is widely regarded as one of Britain’s finest fortified religious buildings.

Potteries

Records show that the pottery industry has existed in the area since 1427. There have been fifteen potteries in the Ewenny area at one time or another, all small family concerns. Pottery is run by the descendants of the original founders, the Jenkins family.

The Legend of the White Lady

Ewenny Priory is said to be haunted by the Y Ladi Wen or the White Lady ghost. It is generally believed that she committed some terrible misdeed in the past and now her spirit must roam the earth in penance. There is a similar legend associated with Ogmore Castle.

Brackla Brackla (Welsh: Bracla) is a large housing estate, community and electoral ward in Bridgend County Borough, Wales. At the 2001 census it had a population of 10,113, increasing to 11,749 at the 2011 Census.

Ogwr The Borough of Ogwr was one of six districts of Mid Glamorgan in Wales, which existed from 1974 to 1996. It was the first district to be named after Ogwr.

Newcastle, Bridgend Newcastle is an area and electoral ward of Bridgend, Wales. The area includes the medieval Newcastle Castle. The ward elects councillors to the Town Council and County Borough Council.

Ewenny Priory House Ewenny Priory House is a privately owned Georgian mansion. Originally built in 1545 it was rebuilt in the early 1800s. The house is Grade II* listed.

St Crallo’s Church St Crallo’s Church is a Grade I listed church in Coychurch Lower, Bridgend County Borough, southern Wales. It is often referred to historically as The Cathedral of the Vale of Glamorgan.

Merthyr Mawr The community occupies the area west of the Ewenny River between Bridgend and Porthcawl. It takes in the settlement of Tythegston and a stretch of coastal sand dunes known as Merthyr Mawr Warren.

Ewenny River The Ewenny River forms the border between Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend. It is a major tributary of the River Ogmore.

Penybont F.C. Penybont Football Club was formed in 2013 following the merger of Bridgend Town and Bryntirion Athletic. The Welsh club play in the Cymru Premier.

Southerndown Southerndown is a village in southern Wales to the southwest of Bridgend. It is mostly known for its beach which backs Dunraven Bay (Welsh: Bae Dwnrhefn) It is a popular tourist destination during the summer months.
