Empshott history
Empshott is listed in the 1086 Domesday survey as being held by Geoffrey the Marshal. The hamlet comprised four villagers and a mill. The famous Hambledon batsman John Small was born in the hamlet in 1737.

An area of 20 hectares (49 acres) is a nature reserve managed by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust. It rises to a maximum height of about 210 metres above sea-level.
