The name was recorded as Alrecher in the 11th century and Alekirr in 1139. The village church is dedicated to St Anne and is designated as a Grade II listed building. Ellerker photo Petuaria
Petuaria was originally a Roman fort situated where the town of Brough in the East Riding of Yorkshire now stands. It was founded in 70 AD and abandoned in about 125. The adjacent civitas (civil town), ferry-crossing and (attested) port which grew over and replaced the fort survived until about 370.

HM Prison Everthorpe was a Category C men’s prison in the East Riding of Yorkshire. It was located near Brough, (near Brough) and was operated by Her Majesty’s Prison Service. In 2014, it was merged with HM Prison Wolds, and renamed HM Prison Humber.

South Cave formerly held a town charter that has lapsed and the parish council no longer styles itself as a town. According to the 2011 UK Census, South Cave parish had a population of 4,823.

HM Prison Wolds was a Category C men’s prison, located south-west of Everthorpe, (near Brough) in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The prison was operated by Her Majesty’s Prison Service, and was situated next-to-the-next-door to HMP Everthornorpe. The two neighbouring prisons were merged in 2014, and renamed HM Prison Humber.
