RAF Deenethorpe was used as a purpose-built base to serve American heavy bombers during the Second World War. 401st bombardment group was based here from 3 November 1943 and 20 June 1945. The villages name means ‘Deene’s outlying farm/settlement’

Medieval and Later

Medieval settlement remains, formerly part of Deenethorpe village, are located on the Benefield Road and on the steep side of the valley. On the site itself, in a low mound, there is an abundance of medieval pottery, including Lyveden wares.

Cultivation Remains

Deenethorpe is not found in the Domesday Book and is thought to have been part of Deene. Common fields of the parish existed in the late 16th century and at this time there were four open fields around and to the South of the village. The current fields seen today had already been made by the middle of the 18th century.

Deenethorpe Deenethorpe is a village and civil parish in North Northamptonshire, England. It is situated north-east of Corby and near the A43 road between Corby and Stamford. Nearby villages are Deene and Bulwick, Bulwick and Upper Benefield.

Deene Park Deene Park, the seat of the Brudenell family since 1514, is a Grade I listed country manor located 5 miles (8 kilometres) northeast of Corby in Northamptonshire, England. Seven of the family were Earls of Cardigan – the most notable being the 7th Earl who led the Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava (1854)

St Peter’s Church, Deene St Peter’s Church is a former Anglican church in the village of Deene, Northamptonshire. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building.

Kirby Hall Kirby Hall is an Elizabethan country house, located near Gretton, Northamptonshire. It was built for Sir Humphrey Stafford of Blatherwick, beginning in 1570. It is a leading and early example of the Elizabethan prodigy house. The house is now in a semi-ruined state with many parts roof-less.
