Chislet history

Until 1969, Chislet was the most northerly colliery in Kent. The village is served by the Anglican parish church of St Mary the Virgin, a Grade I listed building.

Chislet geography / climate

Chislet marshes mark the western end of the Wantsum Channel, an arm of the North Sea that separated the Isle of Thanet from the mainland. Saltmaking was an important activity in the marshes in ancient times.

Grove Ferry Picnic Area Grove Ferry Picnic Area is near Upstreet, in Kent, on the site of an old hand-drawn ferry that once crossed the River Stour. It is beside the Grove Ferry Public House, built in 1831 and now managed by Shepherd Neame.

Stodmarsh National Nature Reserve Stodmarsh National Nature Reserve lies in the valley of the Great Stour river, between Westbere and Grove Ferry, in the county of Kent. The reserve consists of a number of different habitats that are important for wildlife. The area around Grove Ferry has been restored to wetland habitat.

Chislet Windmill Chislet windmill was built in 1744 and burnt down on 15 October 2005. It was a Grade II listed smock mill in Kent, England.

Sarre Windmill Sarre Windmill is a Grade II listed smock mill in Sarre, Kent, built in 1820. Formerly restored and working commercially, the mill is now closed.
