Chickerell is recent and one of Dorset’s newest towns. Roman remains have been found, indicating that there has been settlement in the area for many years.

Chickerell geography / climate

The parish of Chickerell has to the west the Fleet Lagoon, East Fleet and Langton Herring. To the north-west is Portesham, to the east Weymouth, and to the south the Isle of Portland. Chesil Beach is part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site.

Jubilee Clock Tower, Weymouth The Jubilee Clock Tower is a free-standing clock tower on the Esplanade of Weymouth, Dorset . It was built and erected in 1888 to commemorate the Golden jubilee of Queen Victoria .

Royal Hotel, Weymouth The Royal Hotel is a 19th-century hotel at Weymouth, Dorset, England . It is located on the town’s seafront, overlooking the beach and bay . The building has been a Grade II listed building since 1974 .

Portwey Hospital Portwey Hospital is a former workhouse and hospital located at Weymouth, Dorset . Originally built in the 1830s, it was later known as PortWey Hospital in the 1930s . After closing in 1987, the building was transformed into a housing development known as Union Court .

Belfield House Belfield House is an 18th-century country house located in Wyke Regis, Weymouth, Dorset . Built around 1775-80 of stone and yellow brick in late classical design .

Bennetts Water Gardens Bennetts Water Gardens is an 8-acre (32,000 m) garden in Chickerell, near Weymouth, Dorset . It holds national and international collections of water lilies which flower from late May through to September . Main feature of the garden is a blue Japanese bridge built in 1999 to celebrate 100 years since Claude Monet painted his famous piece Water Lily Pond 1899 .

Fleet Old Church Fleet Old Church is a Church of England mortuary chapel in Fleet, Dorset. It was formerly the village’s parish church until its partial destruction in the Great Storm of 1824. The surviving chancel is now a Grade II* listed building.

St Nicholas’ Church, Broadwey St Nicholas’ Church is a Church of England church in Broadwey, Dorset. It has Norman origins, but most of the existing church dates from 19th century work. The church became Grade II listed in 1953.
