Bamford was recorded in the Domesday Book as Banford, and likely came from Anglo-Saxon Bēamford = “tree-trunk ford” The village graveyard contains some re-interred graves from nearby villages of Derwent and Ashopton which were submerged following the creation of Ladybower Reservoir.
