Welton, Lincolnshire history


The name means, roughly, “village with a well”, and a village well exists, complete with Victorian pump. There is evidence of both Roman and Celtic settlement, and the village was established by the time of the Domesday Book. The 2001 Census recorded a resident village population of 5,000.
