Shaw Park was the garden of Brooklands House until the house’s demolition in 1930 . Raymond Shaw gave the garden to Elland UDC after which it became a public park . It has a playground, astroturf 5-a-side football pitch, well, reed pond, arches, three follies and woods .
St Helen’s Well
St Helen’s Well is mentioned in John Watson’s History and Antiquities of the Parish of Halifax, 1775 . A Roman Catholic chapel dedicated to St Helen nearby had been converted into a cottage . In its walls was a large stone known locally as “the Cross” Both the Well and the Cross were sometimes visited by “strangers”
Carr Hall Castle
Carr Hall Castle is at the end of Shaw Lane . It won Channel 5’s 2008 TV show I Own Britain’s Best Home . The castle is on Shaw Lane at the bottom of the street .
Bradley Hall Golf Club
The golf course spreads along the side of the hill below Stainland . Opposite Burrwood Way’s junction with Stainland Road is the road to Bradley Hall Golf Club .
Public houses and restaurants
The Rock Hotel, at the bottom of Broad Carr Lane, still has the original Rock Inn at the front of the building . The property was acquired by the Andersen family in 2014 and has undergone extensive refurbishment .
