Holtby history
Holtby is mentioned in the Domesday Book as Boltebi in the Bulford hundred in the possession of the King. The village was historically part of the North Riding of Yorkshire until 1974. It was then a part of Ryedale in North Yorkshire from 1974 until 1996. Holtby was served by Holtby railway station on the York to Beverley Line between 1847 and 1939.
