Haroldston St. Issell’s history
Manor
Haroldston Manor was the seat of firstly the Harold family and then the Perrot family, including Sir John Perrot, thought to be the illegitimate son of Henry VIII. In 1643, Haroldston was garrisoned by Royalist troops with the presumed support of Herbert Perrot.
Population
The population of the parish reported in 1833 was 304. In 1872, it was reported as 281, in 59 houses. The population in 1872 was reported to be 281.
Mining
In 1994 it was excavated to bedrock level for capping to safeguard Haverfordwest building expansion. Ochre was mined from 1911 until 1915, then abandoned by 1919.
