Fettercairn history
In 1504 Fettercairn was granted the status of a free burgh of barony with the right to hold a weekly market and an annual fair dedicated to St Mark. The village was sacked and burned by the army of the Marquis of Montrose in 1645 during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms. Five years later, Montrose would pass through the village bound hand and foot on horseback on his way to his execution in Edinburgh.
