About Chadderton
Chadderton is a town on the River Irk and Rochdale Canal in the foothills of the Pennines. It is 1 mile (1.6 km) west of Oldham, 4.5 miles (7.2 km) south of Rochdal and 6 miles (9.7 km) northeast of Manchester. The town’s early history is marked by its status as a manorial township, with its own lords, who included the Asshetons, Chethams, Radclyffes and Traffords. A late-19th-century factory-building boom transformed the town from a rural township into a major mill town.
